Impact of raw material transmittance on dye sub.

We tested three different opacity keycaps, and I’ve used 25%, 50%, and 85% to represent their different semi-transparencies, but that’s just a ballpark figure and not a true percentage.

These keycaps are made using the same sheet of film, the same ink, the same equipment, the same temperature …… but the larger the ratio the lighter the color, so we will use a formula with a smaller ratio of titanium dioxide for darker, more saturated, brighter colors.

It’s not particularly noticeable in the photos, and less titanium dioxide also gives better side color and reduces the probability of a color gradient.
But when I’m in a frontal heat sublimation scenario, more titanium dioxide gives better printing results!

So our team will decide on these formulas based on different designs, colors, and of course much more than just the percentage of titanium dioxide.

Usually we don’t involve designers in the selection of raw materials because it adds a lot of communication costs.
